The idea of Meet Teen was created by Naxxar Youth Local Council in 2016 through a competition between other Youth Local Councils which included making a proposal, an action plan and a budget of the project. For being one of the winners Naxxar Youth Local Council was entitled to receive €3000, 80% financed by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ while Naxxar Local Council funded the remaining 20%.

The objective of MeetTeen is to create a safe and secure environment at a distance from age-inappropriate settings. Where young people especially adolescents, can relax and socialise while being provided with a positive experience.

The MeetTeen concept was formed as a reaction to the unfortunate incident that happened in Paceville on the 15th of November 2015. This incident sheds light on the fact that young adolescents are attending night clubs. This incident generated a lot of discussions on what should be done to address the issue.

MeetTeen seeks to:

• Provide opportunities for social interaction.

• To create a safe and fun environment for young people.

• To provide a space that welcomes all youth regardless of where they come from.

• Encourage a sense of community and community ownership.

• Promote active mentoring between volunteers, young people and youth workers.

• Encouraging attendance to age appropriate entertainment.

• For MeetTeen to be a platform to channel young people’ energy towards a positive experience.

• For MeetTeen to be a social hub for youth.

• To provide a sense of belonging for youths.

• Seeking to create a youth lead environment.

• Creating a safer environment free from drugs and alcohol.

• A hub to generate new ideas and challenge creativity.
